Small Ways I Stay
Choosing myself wasn’t a single decision.
It wasn’t a dramatic turning point where everything suddenly felt healed and whole.
It was — and still is — a daily practice.
Some days it feels empowering.
Some days it feels fragile.
But the truth is, staying grounded doesn’t require perfection. It requires intention.
These are the self-care practices that keep me steady when life feels loud, uncertain, or overwhelming.
Quiet Mornings Before the World Wakes Up
Before I check my phone.
Before I answer messages.
Before I step into roles and responsibilities.
I give myself a few quiet minutes.
Sometimes it’s coffee in silence.
Sometimes it’s journaling.
Sometimes it’s just sitting and breathing.
Those few moments remind me:
I am a person before I am everything else.
Writing What I Can’t Always Say Out Loud
Writing has become one of my deepest forms of healing.
When emotions feel tangled or heavy, I don’t try to “figure them out” immediately.
I just let them spill onto the page.
No censoring.
No editing.
No explaining.
Just honesty.
There is something incredibly grounding about seeing your thoughts outside of your head. It creates space between you and the chaos.
Creating With My Hands
Whether it’s jewelry, candles, drawing, or designing something new — creating brings me back to myself.
When I’m making something, I’m not overthinking the past.
I’m not worrying about the future.
I’m here.
Present. Focused. Intentional.
Creativity reminds me that I can build beauty even from seasons that felt broken.
Moving My Body, Even When I Don’t Feel Like It
Movement isn’t about punishment or perfection anymore.
It’s about release.
A walk.
Stretching.
Dancing in the kitchen.
Sometimes the most grounding thing I can do is move the emotion through my body instead of letting it sit there.
Letting Rest Be Enough
This one took me the longest to learn.
Rest is not laziness.
Rest is not weakness.
Rest is not giving up.
Rest is regulation.
Rest is healing.
Rest is choosing peace over pressure.
Some days, grounding looks like doing less — not more.
Reminding Myself That Growth Isn’t Linear
There are days when I feel strong and steady.
There are days when I feel triggered and tired.
Both can exist.
Grounding doesn’t mean I never struggle.
It means I know how to come back to myself when I do.
Choosing Myself, Every Day
Self-care isn’t bubble baths and inspirational quotes — though sometimes it can be.
For me, it’s small, consistent acts of remembering who I am.
It’s protecting my peace.
It’s honoring my nervous system.
It’s telling myself the truth.
Choosing myself wasn’t the end of the story.
It was the beginning of learning how to stay.
